Marcus Thuram: "Parma is Special for My Family, I’m Learning to Be a Striker"

MILAN, ITALY – DECEMBER 06: Marcus Thuram celebrated a heartfelt moment during Inter’s 3-1 victory over Parma in Serie A. The French international scored his team’s third goal at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza and reflected on the emotional connection he shares with Parma, where he was born during his father Lilian Thuram's time as a player.

“Parma is a special club for my family because I was born there. It feels a bit strange to play against them,” Thuram told DAZN. “When I play in Parma, I think it will feel even more emotional. But today, I’m happy to have played and scored.”

Evolving as a Striker Under Inzaghi

Thuram, traditionally known as an attacking winger, is embracing his transformation into a striker under the guidance of coach Simone Inzaghi. His goal came from a flicked-on corner at the back post—a move he credited to Inzaghi’s influence.

“The coach worked with Ciro Immobile at Lazio, who scored a lot of goals like that,” Thuram explained. “I often take that position, though I sometimes forget! This time, I did it properly.”

Despite being relatively new to the role, Thuram acknowledged he’s still adapting to life as a center-forward. “I started this role at Inter and I’m improving, but there’s still a lot I need to get better at. I’m learning all I can from Lautaro Martinez and Marko Arnautovic.”

Looking Ahead to Bayer Leverkusen

Inter now turn their focus to the Champions League clash with Bayer Leverkusen, and Thuram, a former Bundesliga player with Borussia Mönchengladbach, offered his insights.

“Bayer have changed a lot since I was in Germany. They’re under a new coach and had an incredible campaign last season. They’re strong, but we’re going for the victory,” he said confidently.

For Thuram, the journey continues as he carves out his identity in Serie A—honoring his family’s ties to Parma while forging his path as Inter’s rising star.
