Inter Milan coach Simone Inzaghi expressed his satisfaction with his team’s performance after their 3-1 Serie A victory over Parma but admitted to having “only one regret.” Speaking to DAZN via FCInterNews, Inzaghi praised his players while reflecting on a minor lapse that cost them a clean sheet.
Inter Respond to Pressure with a Solid Win
Coming off a postponed match against Fiorentina last weekend, Inter entered the game knowing they needed a strong result to keep pace in Serie A. Facing a resilient Parma side—who’ve already defeated AC Milan and Lazio this season—Inter delivered a professional performance.
Goals from Federico Dimarco, Nicolò Barella, and Marcus Thuram sealed the win for the Nerazzurri, despite a late own goal from Matteo Darmian denying them a shutout.
Inzaghi’s Take: Positives and One Regret
“The goals we scored were fantastic,” Inzaghi remarked, highlighting the quality of his team’s attacking play. He also praised Lautaro Martinez for his work ethic, even though the captain didn’t get on the scoresheet.
“In the 90th minute, Lautaro was tracking back like a true captain,” Inzaghi noted.
However, the coach pointed to Parma’s late goal as the only blemish on an otherwise excellent performance. “The only regret is conceding that goal. Based on how we played and worked together as a team, we didn’t deserve it.”
Inzaghi refused to lay blame on Darmian for the own goal. “Matteo was frustrated, but the mistake started earlier. He’s probably the least culpable for it,” the coach explained.
Praise for Key Players
Inzaghi singled out Nicolò Barella for special praise, calling him “extraordinary.”
“Last season was his best under me, even if he had fewer goals and assists. This season, he’s just been phenomenal,” the coach said.
JoaquÃn Correa, who has been in better form recently, also earned Inzaghi’s recognition. “For me, the player we all know is back. He faces tough competition in attack, but he’s showing what he can do,” Inzaghi added, noting his faith in Correa’s resurgence.
Looking Ahead to the Club World Cup
Inzaghi also shared his thoughts on Inter’s qualification for next summer’s Club World Cup. “It’s a huge source of pride for us. It’s a reward for everything this team has achieved over the last three and a half years,” he said.
“Of course, we’ll give it our best, but my first thought is gratitude for the progress we’ve made—like reaching the Champions League round of 16 after ten years.”
With the Club World Cup on the horizon and Serie A momentum building, Inzaghi’s focus remains sharp as Inter continue their campaign for success on multiple fronts.
